The Summit 3 Announced!

The Summit 3 is here! Beyond the Summit has just announced the schedule and details for the in-game ticket and item bundles for the prestigious American tournament. Eight teams will compete for a base prize pool of $100,000 which will be contributed by BTS and their sponsors, with an additional 20% from all compendium sales and 10% from the custom treasure chest supporting the international competition. The competition kicks off as early as tomorrow, with the European division starting their online pre-qualifier stage.

The online qualifiers will begin with a pre-qualifier stage, where the unproven squads will compete for a chance to place into the regional qualifiers. The advancing squads will then face a number of top tier teams such as eu Team Secret, us Evil Geniuses and world Cloud9 for a limited number of LAN spots. Only two teams will qualify from Europe and North America, with an additional two teams representing Southeast Asia and China respectively. The competition will be fierce since there are limited spots for each talented region and teams will battle to reach the city of Los Angeles for this unique tournament experience.

Returning to The Summit 3 will be the defending champions cn Vici Gaming. However, the question remains, who will appear on the team's roster? Recent news confirming de Dominik ’Black^’ Reitmeier's departure leaves the carry position wide open. Vici's direct invite brings the number of attending teams to seven; however BTS is bringing back the community vote as well, with the redemption vote returning to season three. Those who purchase a compendium will be able to revive a fallen team from the qualifiers, giving them a direct invite to the LA LAN this May.

BTS will also be releasing their "Treasure of the Frigid Beyond", a chest containing one of (6) hero sets, with a chance for the Chirpy Courier mascot. 10% of each sale will be going towards the prize pool. Additionally, players can purchase a Summit 3 Compendium, with further details coming regarding its contents and item bundle. Naturally, coverage for the international event will be provided by Beyond the Summit, however additional coverage will be provided in more than five languages, so expect the Summit's "behind the scenes" production to be accessible to even more fans!

The tournament will be one of the major international LANs in the post-DAC season, giving fans around the world a glimpse of their favourite squads. With the International looming closer and closer, professional teams will fight to secure The Summit 3 championship, with an invitation to TI5 in mind.

Major Allstars: We know who is going!

Nearly two months ago we informed you about a $100,000 LAN event taking place in the SEA region. Up to this point, almost all the qualifiers have been finished and we already know seven of the eight teams that will attend the Major All Stars Dota 2 Tournament. Check out our article and get to know who is joining ua Natus Vincere, ph Rave and my Invasion eSports on their trip to Kuala Lumpur!

The tournament will feature three invited and five qualified teams. The LAN finals will start at the 20th of March and will last for three days. The only participant left to be determined is the Chinese. However, the details for the format of the qualifiers are yet unannounced. Here is how it unfolded in the rest of the regions:

SEA qualifiers
The qualifiers in SEA were open for anyone to play. After much deliberation ex-my Arrow Gaming roster under the name of my Team Redemption were allowed to compete in the qualifiers. More info here. The squad managed to claim one of the two SEA spots in the LAN finals, while the other one was won by au Can't Say Wips. Additionally, the OK.-Dota champions will also battle in Kuala Lumpur.

American qualifiers
The American qualifier consisted of 8 invited teams and the system was a single elimination bracket. us eHug managed to beat pe Not Today, which were themselves in a good form (as we can see from their 8-2 MLG Pro League standings), with a convincing 2-0 and then went on to beat us Leviathan and us FireDota in a close series ending up with 3-2 score securing their ticket to the LAN finals.

European qualifiers
The system of the European qualifiers was a bit different than the one in the American. We again had eight invited teams but the bracket was ran in a double elimination format. Also teams in the finals agreed to play a best of three instead of best of five to decide who is going to represent Europe alongside NaVi in this event. ru Team Empire stormed through the upper bracket losing only one game in the first round. In the finals after a very close, back and forth match one they took a convincing 21 min victory in the second game and guaranteed themselves a trip to Malaysia.

ESL announces $1 million prize pool!

ESL minutes ago unveiled their gigantic plans to take the ESL One to the next level by offering $1 million in prize money for the tournament series, with a minimum $250,000 base for each event. ESL One Frankfurt is the first event to receive the "buff", raising its base prize pool from $150,000 to a staggering $250,000 with at least one more event on the books.

The $1 million dollar investment starts from June and will take place within the 12 months to follow, meaning that since there is a "minimum prize pools of $250,000 for each event", we can deduce there will be at least one more ESL One event! What is more ESL One will become the only tournament organisers to offer a base prize pool of over $250,000 for multiple events aside from Valve with The International.

“We’re starting with ESL One Frankfurt 2015 in June this year, where the prize money has been raised from $150,000 to $250,000 – and this is just the beginning. ESL One is here to set a new standard for professional Dota 2 events at this level. We’re dedicated to pushing the boundaries, and giving players from around the world more chances to make their careers as professional gamers is a key aspect of that."

Ulrich Schulze, Managing Director of Pro Gaming at ESL

Last year ESL hosted two events in Frankfurt and New York with a combined base prize pool of $250,000, meaning this move sees ESL quadruple their investment into the Dota 2 scene. The location for the additional event(s) has yet to be announced but ESL promises the events "will continue to take place at iconic stadiums and arenas from around the world."

SingSing and MSS' mix teams still in EU open qualifiers

The news of the prize pool increase will be incredible news to the remaining teams in the open qualifiers. The open qualifiers for Europe got underway last night, with close to 400 teams looking to get themselves one step closer to securing tickets to the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt. Now only 16 teams remain, with the top 4 teams from the open qualifiers set to join the main round of qualifiers and face off against a host of invited teams.

Several new teams sprung up for the qualifiers, including MSS and Pandaego's team The Worst Team Ever and SingSing and ComeWithMe's Burden United, both of which have reached the round of 16 which will be played out this evening. Last week Team Secret was the first team to receive a direct invite to ESL One Frankfurt, with two invites still left to be announced, leaving five spots for teams from the qualifiers.
