For about one and a half weeks, it looked dire for the chinese newcomers CIS to compete in this year's International,
the largest eSports tournament ever. Now, all of their visas got
approved on their fourth try by a friendly Dota 2 playing officer.
Just this morning, CIS
finally got their visas approved and are now ready to go in to this
years main event of Dota 2. Appearantly, an officer, who played Dota
himself helped the team out:
"Fourth try, everyone passed. When I found out the visa was approved I was
almost in tears~~~The officer understood Dota2...all his questions were
about dota2, asking me my ID and when our team was made. Thank you for
everyone's prayers, and everyone who helped out~~~except we haven't
practiced for 10 days, gotta go back and practice" - June, CIS
The promising chinese teams suffered from a long period of uncertainity
whether they could attend the International, but in the end it all
worked out. This was a reoccuring issue for all of the Internationals,
where some team always had some sort of visa problems. This shows, that
there is still a bit to go, until gaming is accepted in the same way as
"normal" sports, however, there have been major steps of improvement in
the past few months.
